Frequently Asked Questions

HOW MANY BATTERIES WILL THE ABC-812 CHARGE?

The ABC has four charge adapter bays, and each charge adapter holds from two to six batteries, depending upon the type and size of the battery. Most adapters charge two batteries. Here are some common examples:

• 8 BB-2590 Batteries
• 8 BB-390 Batteries
• 8 Conformal Wearable Batteries
• 8 PRC-148 MBITR Batteries
• 8 PRC-152 Radio Batteries
• 8 PRC-154 Rifleman Radio Batteries
• 8 PRC-153 Radio Batteries
• 8 BB-2557 Batteries

CAN THE ABC-812 CHARGE TABLETS OR OTHER HIGH-POWER USB DEVICES? DOES THIS USE ONE OF THE ADAPTER BAYS?

Yes, you can charge up to four tablets or other USB powered devices – each of the four USB ports is rated to the maximum current presently used by larger USB devices. The USB four ports do not use an adapter bay – they are always available regardless of what adapters are installed.

CAN I USE THE ABC-812 WITH A CIVILIAN VEHICLE?

Yes, the ABC can use 12VDC civilian vehicle power, as well as 28VDC military vehicle power. Both cigarette plug cables and alligator clip cables are available to connect the ABC to a car, SUV or pickup truck.

WHY IS THE ABC-812 FASTER THAN OTHER CHARGERS?

Most older military chargers only have one or two actual charge circuits, and a switch that moves these from bay to bay. This means that it is really only charging one or two batteries at a time. The ABC has eight battery chargers, so it can usually charge all batteries at the same time.

WHY SHOULD I CARE ABOUT THE CHARGER’S EFFICIENCY?

When you’re using a battery charger in a forward position, the power going into the charger is usually coming from a generator. The most common chargers in use today operate at about 50% efficiency – which means that for every gallon of fuel you use to put electricity into your batteries, another gallon is wasted making heat. The ABC runs at 90% efficiency, so much less fuel is used making waste heat. Less fuel means fewer convoys, which means fewer casualties.

WHAT SOLAR PANELS CAN THE ABC-812 USE?

The ABC-812 is designed to take advantage of any of the commonly deployed military solar panels in use today. It can use foldable panels / solar blankets issued with SPM Power Manager, REPPS, or SPACES kits, GREENS foldable panels, GREENS-II collapsible panels, and most available commercial solar panels.
